Bradwell's Court, Cambridge
In Beverley, near Hull, we were asked by Quintain Estates, CP Group and Wykeland Group to develop a Design Code for a Masterplan near the historic town centre. The 7 hectare site, a former industrial tannery, lies above the remains of the Dominican Friary, a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and is within 200m of Beverley’s well known Grade I listed Minster.
A comprehensive analysis of Beverley’s morphology, urban spaces and building types was undertaken, to inform the development of new public squares, street types and architectural language for the Flemingate site.
Applying Beverley’s medieval character to a large scale mixed use development, including hotel, college, cinema, community buildings, office, retail and residential, was achieved through the sensitive and appropriate use of pitched roofs, broken down street frontages, narrow routes through and traditional materials.
The Design Code for Flemingate has received acclaim from both English Heritage and Beverley’s Civic Society.
Planning Approved March 2008
